Yes, I am talking about homegrown white radishes. I wanted to grow radishes in my rooftop kitchen garden, so I bought seeds from an online store. Now those radishes become nightmares. I had chosen 6 grow bags for this purpose. Now I am having radishes every day. I am seeing those radishes in almost every dish. It is happening for the last couple of days. How am I getting so many radishes from those few grow bags? Are you thinking so?
Well, each of the radishes becomes ready to harvest within 36-40 days from the day of sowing. I never expected such rapid growth of radishes. I am growing radishes for the last couple of years but this time those are really rapid growers. Each of those radishes is almost 7-8 inches long. I am harvesting 2-4 radishes from each grow bag.
I sowed those seeds in seedling pots. Then I noticed tiny seedlings just after 3-4 days. The growth of those seedlings is very slow during the initial days. Those seedlings were almost at the dormancy stage for 2 weeks. After 2 weeks I transplanted those in the grow bags. Then within the next 2-3 weeks, those are ready to harvest, just like magic. Haha!
So that means I am getting more than 20 radishes within 2 weeks. So definitely I have to eat dishes like mooli ka paratha, mulo bothi, mixed veg with radish, mooli pakoda, dal curry with radish etc.
I used to grow vegetables organically. But since last year, I started using a small amount of chemical fertilizer due to the lockdown situation. I was not getting enough compost fertilizer and did not even want to travel for searching for compost fertilizer. So I started managing my kitchen garden with whatever I am getting nearby and from online stores. But the result was excellent. Balanced use of organic & chemical fertilizers, I got excellent results in terms of vegetable production. I hardly needed to visit the local vegetable market during the lockdown situation. The taste & size of the vegetables were very good. So I still am continuing to use a small amount of chemical products to grow all stuff.
