In case foodies eat little extra food then it would never be a serious issue because fewer digestion problems happen during this season. Our body needs extra calorie to generate heat and maintain body temperature. There are some special winter special dishes what people enjoy a lot with roti/paratha/naan for a meal.
5 Winter special curry with roti for dinner
Baingan bharta (Roasted brinjal curry)
Though brinjal is an all-season vegetable but you can see a lot of brinjal/eggplant in the market during this season that too at a very low price. The flavor of roasted brinjal is very special & mouthwatering. Though after roasting, it is normally cooked with oil along with tomatoes and some spices. But in Bengal, it is not cooked after roasting. They just add raw onion & some spices to mix all. It is a very special food to have baigan bharta with roti for a meal.
Pyaz patta sabji (Onion leaves curry)
This is another winter special curry to be served with roti for lunch or dinner. Spring onion leaves are mainly used to make this curry and it is really very delicious & simple dish. I have grown a few onion plants so that I can get a continuous supply of onion leaves throughout the season. All those plants are grown organically and I can harvest those anytime when I need. The taste of this curry with fresh spring onion leaves curry is different.
Patta gobi curry (Cabbage curry)
Cabbage is known as patta gobi or bandh gobi in Hindi. Cabbage is a popular vegetable in India. It has a lot of nutritional values. It contains very less amount of fat at the same time it has a significant amount of dietary fiber, vitamins & minerals.
This cabbage curry is very simple and you can have this dish with not just roti but also rice as well as khichdi too. It is a dry curry. It needs very few ingredients to make. So cabbage lovers often make it during the winter season to have it for a meal.
Mixed saag (Mixed leafy vegetable curry)
Winter is the season when a lot of leafy vegetables are available in the market. All those plenty of fresh leafy vegetables attracts buyers. I mean if you go to a vegetable market and see a lot of fresh leafy vegetables available at a low price then you simply can not stop yourself. So people use those leafy vegetables to make mixed saag and enjoy with roti for a meal. This leafy vegetable curry is very delicious, even vegetable haters can also enjoy it. So in case you do not like leafy vegetables then give it a try. I believe you will start making this it at home regularly.
Aloo mutter (Potato peas curry)
Though I love Bengali style green peas made stuffed puri (karaisutir kachuri) but if you try to make something in green peas to have it with plain roti then I would suggest aloo mutter. It is a very simple and delicious food. So when winter comes and the cold air starts blowing from the North then you should make this aloo mutter and enjoy your meal. This same recipe can repeat and make matar paneer by just replacing potatoes with paneer.
So if you hated winter till today, then from now, you should embrace it with a belief that this is the season of celebration and celebration is incomplete without those winter special dishes with roti for lunch or dinner.
