Selection of spices
Spices are always critical whether you are cooking non vegetarian food or vegetarian food. Particularly if you want to bring taste in your veggie soup then you should use spices very carefully because not all spices will work with all vegetables.
Perfectly cooked ingredients
Cooking time for each ingredient is different. If you want to make soup with lentils or beans then it needs more time to be cooked whereas for tomatoes, pumpkin etc need less time to be cooked. So you need to be careful when you are using such different ingredients. Otherwise if you serve soup with some uncooked ingredients will spoil the actual taste of that soup.
Bite size ingredients
If you are having biryani then you can easily deal with large size meat because we use our hands when we are enjoying biryani. But we do not use hand directly when we deal with soup. We only use spoon or directly take sip of such delicious veggie soup. So if you keep large size vegetables then not only those may remain uncooked but also not so comfortable to deal large size vegetables with spoon, you can not even take sip of such soup with large size vegetable pieces.
Magic ingredients
Each soup has some magic ingredients, so if you do not know it then you can not make such delicious veggie soup. I often use butter, vinegar, lemon juice, pepper powder, fresh cream and even full cream milk. All those are magic ingredients for various vegetable soups. So if you miss those to add then after doing everything perfectly you may fail to bring that mouth watering taste to your soup.

Spinal cord? That to in soup? What nonsense? But yes there is something in soup what you can say spinal cord of any soup because without that your soup can not stand at a certain level. Despite of adding everything, cooking each ingredient for correct duration, you may find final result (soup) is tasteless. It is also true for almost every food. So what mistake you have done? What can be considered as spinal cord of your homemade soup? Well it is salt, some chilies can also be considered as spinal cord of your homemade soup. If you have not added salt of right quantity then it will become tasteless. In some soups, chilies are also important.
