Papaya is one of such fruits what is considered as a vegetable when it is unripe and as a fruit when it is perfectly ripe. Mango & jackfruit are also considered as such fruit/vegetable. Do you know that India is the major producer of papaya fruits in the world? In rural India, you will see this plant in the backyard of almost every household in some states. West Bengal where I am living is one of those Indian states. If you have very small area in your backyard then also you can grow some papaya plants to create a forest like condition.
A few months back I planted two papaya plants in our backyard. I have mentioned about that in my earlier posts. Now that area became almost a tiny papaya plant’s forest. No, it is not just due to those two papaya plants.
Actually, there are a few more papaya plants grew after a few months of planting the first two papaya plants. We did not sow seeds ourselves but probably we threw papaya waste after consuming a perfectly ripe papaya bought from the market. Oneday, I suddenly noticed that there are many tiny papaya plants within a small area of 4 feet by 6 feet area. But I did not shifted those plants and allowed those to grow and within a couple of months, now that became a tiny forest like area with several papaya plants.
When it comes to the first two saplings what I planted in the month of February 2019. I have already said that I will share when those plants will reach atleast 5-6 feet or will start flowering & fruiting then I will share another post on that. So that is why I am writing this post to let you know about those two plants.
One of those plants now reached at 6 feet height and already started flowering & fruiting. It is a bisexual plant. so it does not need any other male plant for pollination.
But the other plant dissatisfied me because that plant did not grow after reaching 2.5 feet height. I do not know the exact reason. I sprayed fungicide and fertilized properly but that plant did not respond.
