Gotu kola is a popular herb. It is also used as a medicinal purpose in Ayurveda. Traditionally it is used to boost brain power & improve the immunity system. Gotu kola leaves are often used to make so many traditional food & drinks. This gotu kola extract herbal juice is my favorite one.
Apart from all its health benefits, medicinal usage and other claims, there are a few people who love this gotu kola leaves just because they really enjoy the taste of it. I certainly belong to that group of people. I love to add gotu kola (thankuni pata) in traditional Bengali dish “shukto”. I always enjoy gotu kola extract herbal juice, gotu kola sharbat, gotu kola mint drink, gotu kola tea etc. Most people drink those because of its health benefits but I love to have those just because of its taste. I used to add sugar to those drinks but nowadays I normally avoid sugar.
I have said that in many places gotu kola may not easily available but here in West Bengal where I live, it is very easily available. You can buy it from the local market too. You can have a branch of thankuni pata (approx 20-22 gotu kola leaves) for Rs 10. It is not costly but still, you can not say it is available at low cost.
That is why I grow my own leaves in a container. It is very easy to grow but it needs enough water & regular watering. The soil of the container should always be wet. Then you can get plenty of fresh green leaves throughout the year, any season at any time. But if you do not grow at your home then you may not get it during offseason because it is normally available during the rainy season. So are you planning to grow your own gotu kola leaves at home?
