1. Luchi & chholar dal/dum aloo
Luchi is nothing but North Indian puri which is made with maida (refined all-purpose flour) instead of normal wheat flour. It actually deep fried Indian bread. Soft all-purpose flour made ball is rolled to give flat circular shape and finally deep fried in vegetable oil. It is often served with chholar dal (split Bengal gram lentils) or dum aloo ( potato made spicy dish).
2. Parota & dum aloo
It is same as luchi but much more thicker and larger in size. It is not deep fried but slowly cooked in very less oil. Sometimes it is prepared with some stuffing items inside parota (like aloo parota, paneer parota etc). Those parota is served with dum aloo or any other sabzi. This food is a very common item in Bengali breakfast menu.
3. Roti & sabzi
Bengalis do not eat roti in their main course meal (lunch/dinner), rather they prefer it in breakfast or sometimes weekend breakfast. Though nowadays many families prefer to have roti for dinner rather than having rice both times in lunch as well as dinner. Homemade plain tawa made roti is preferred. Mostly it is served with any vegetarian or non-vegetarian dish. This is one of the easiest Bengali breakfast recipes.
4. Bread omelette
Bread omelette is another great option for Bengali breakfast menu in any family. Normally bread & omelette do serve as two different items, rather they prefer fried bread slices dipped in egg or cook both bread & egg with finely chopped onion, green chillies, tomatoes etc.
5. Radhaballabhi & aloor sabzi
Radhaballabhi is not something that can be easily cooked, so it is not generally served on weekdays. It needs time to be prepared & cooked so it finds a place in weekend or holiday’s Bengali breakfast menu. Lentils made stuffing material is put inside all-purpose flour made small dough and then deep fried in vegetable oil. It is normally served with potato curry, dum aloo, chana masala etc.
