Hello, hello! It’s time to talk about pea soup. If you are a soup lover then you must have tasted some types of pea soup definitely. But if you visit a decent restaurant and order pea soup or any other soups, then you have to pay a decent amount too. Is it not true? It is very costly, other way we can say that many people can not afford to have a bowl of pea soup at a restaurant regularly. So what will you do if you are facing similar issue. Give up, Right? Then why not you simply learn to make soup at home and enjoy everyday as much as possible.
To be very honest I personally do not like pea soup due to strong flavor of peas. Do you have same issue? Then this pea soup recipe is a treasure for you. 🙂 Ha ha, I am not joking, I mean you really equally like it as much I do.
This recipe has two steps, first making smooth puree of green peas, onion, red chili and black pepper, then second is, preparing the extracts of green tomato. Now you need to mix those two and boil. Before switching off the flame, add fresh cream and mix properly. It brings a fantastic shine in this soup.
This was first time when I made pea soup with green tomatoes. Otherwise I made peas soup without adding green tomatoes several times but I did not like strong flavor of green peas. That not means I do not like peas, I liked it very much but still here that strong flavor of peas in soup did not worked for me. That is why I thought to add tomatoes but still ripe red tomatoes would be a worse choice as it would destroy the color of green pea and it would little more sweetness in this pea soup. So a BIG NO to ripe red tomatoes. Then I added green tomatoes to this soup and I was damn sure that it will work because I have soup making experience of years. AND it proved me right. when I cooked it and tasted this soup, I found it awesome. It is different than normal pea soup what you may often have at restaurant. So try this pea soup with green tomatoes at home and enjoy fullest. But if you still not want to make this soup with green tomatoes then follow this recipe without adding green tomatoes and taste traditional pea soup.
Pea soup recipe
- Green peas - ½ cup
- Onion (chopped) - 1 medium size
- Red chilies (whole) - 1
- Black pepper powder - 1 tsp
- Butter - 1 tbsp
- Green tomato - 2 small size
- Corn flour - 1 tbsp
- Fresh cream - 1 tbsp
- Salt - as needed
- Water 2.5 cups
- Saute green peas, onion, red chili and black pepper in butter for 3-4 minutes
- Rest for 5 mins to cool, blend together to make smooth puree
- Boil green tomato (chopped) in water (1.5 cups) for 6-7 mins and take extracts and leave the tomato pulp
- Now again boil tomato extracts and add peas puree and salt to it and cook for 3 mins
- Take one more cup of water and mix corn flour and add it to tomato extracts
- Now boil for another 3 minutes and add fresh cream and mix with whole soup
- Now switch off flame and pour in serving bowls
This pea soup is really good and I like it very much. I also tried to make thick version of green pea soup but as said earlier I personally did not liked that. I will share that recipe separately in near future too, till then make it at your home and enjoy.
