NO TRAFFIC! LOW TRAFFIC! NO TRAFFIC! LOW TRAFFIC! NO TRAFFIC!
No matter what is your purpose to have a blog, it is always frustrating if you are working hard, writing posts regularly but not getting enough traffic.
|Many people are lucky who have achieved success in blogging in their first year. LUCKY? Is it? Nope! Actually they worked very hard to get this. Not only hard work is sufficient but that too in right direction. Otherwise there are millions of people who proudly won their blog (or blogs). Many hundred thousands of them also working hard and very determined but very few are successful.|
Few years back it was little bit easy to be successful blogger but today you are searching for a path towards success but eventually you are actually lost in crowd. Does it sound so negative? May be it is but point is, nowadays you need to have proper strategy along with all hard works otherwise nothing is going to happen in reality.
PLAN! WRITE! POST! SHARE!
Blogging is no longer an easy game what you can win without any practice or hard work. So to make your website / blog visible to hundreds of thousand readers you need a clear blogging strategy.
But fact is that not every blogger starts a blog to become a pro. Actually most of the people start blogging to share their thoughts on various things of their interest. So later on when they think to be a pro and monetize their blog that time it becomes very difficult to set a goal and align everything (past and future blogging activities) towards that goal.
Selecting blogging niche is most important before moving ahead.
Stick to a particular niche is a key to get success faster. But it needs your tremendous passion for that subject as remember BLOGGING IS NOT EASY. It needs hard work, right strategy, patience and sometime little luck, so if you are not passionate about the niche then you never can continue it for months or even years to get actual success.
If you are running a multi niche blog or want to create a multi niche blog then you need to work harder, write multiple posts daily, encourage more guest authors or have co-owners of your blog.
How to select a right domain name for your site?
Is there any trick?
There are so many old rules for selecting a domain name. Like,
- Easy to remember and short name
- Include keywords in your domain name
But if your domain name reflects a particular topic or subject then you may face problems if you want to expand area for blog posts and start writing on other topics.
So keyword focused domain name may good for search engine point of view but once you change your blogging plan and want to write on many more topics then it will be a disadvantage.
Who are your target audiences?
In which country do they reside? or it is not specific to any country
Age group of your audiences? teenagers,20-15 years old, 25-35 years old etc
Benefit of having a predefined target audience is, it helps you connect with your readers and maintaining a right tone and style in each article or post.
If you have travel blog for age group of 25-35 years old or only for men or women, for each group you need to maintain different writing style and tone throughout your website.
So defining target audience is always a key to increase website traffic and grow your blog faster.
How much does it actually matter?
- Give me a bottle of water
- Please, give me bottle of water
- Hello bro, give me a bottle of water
- I am telling you, give me bottle of water
- Excuse me, may I have a bottle of water
All these sentences are used to express same thing but tones are different.
|First sentence (give me a bottle of water) is much more straight forward and directly asked for what someone needs.
Second sentence (please, give me a bottle of water) is much more softer in tone and said please before asking for what he/she needs.
Third sentence (Hello bro, give me a bottle of water) is more casual and friendly way to ask. Such tone is used when young people or friends talk each other.
Fourth sentence (I am telling you, give me a bottle of water) is very rude way to ask for something. People only ask this way when he/she do not bother about what others will feel.
Last sentence (Excuse me, may I have a bottle of water) is most polite way to ask for something. Here last one is best option to talk someone whom you do not know personally.
So if you keep all these aspects in mind while selecting right tone of voice for your posts then you can easily connect with your readers.
How much posts you should write in each week?
Do you have set your own rule of writing posts every week or even day?
Actually there is no thumb rule for posting frequency, actually if you have just started your blog then no need to set any such rule rather you should only concentrate on creating more and more quality contents. If you do not have enough traffic then how can you think about posting frequency, you are just a soldier, so you can only do work harder. You can not dream about fixed number of posts in each week. So you should concentrate on….
QUALITY CONTENT! QUALITY CONTENT! QUALITY CONTENT!
Once you reached certain number of daily visitors to your blog then only you can enjoy such luxury of posting frequency.
But how many posts per week is enough for your blog? Actually nobody can answer this because if you can twenty quality posts per week then it is definitely better than 5-6 quality posts. But can you really write 20 posts without sacrificing quality? Here is the trick. Based on your ability to produce quality posts every week, you should plan your weekly time table for posting articles. You can also invites others for being guest authors.
Promotion is important for any business and it is equally important whether your business is online or offline.
Not even for business, any activity, sports, event & incident whatever you want people should know, you have to promote that through every possible and effective channel.
How to increase website traffic? Where to promote to increase blog traffic?
Dependency on social media traffic and other referral traffic are higher during initial stage of a blog as no search engine will trust you as a valuable source of information.
Actually it takes time to start getting organic traffic, so till then only social media traffic and other referral traffic will help you to survive and keep you motivated.
Not only that link building through sharing your blog links on social media and other sites also help you in improving page rank .
So from the beginning of your blogging journey you should have a fixed time table for sharing blog links on social media and other sites and critically monitor results of all channel as not all channel will not work equally for every blog or website.
For example Facebook is not effective for FavCounter till now but it getting good result from Pinterest and forums as compare to Facebook.
So here it is time to take break to understand what are the issues for a non performing channel.
Select your right blogging platform and software and start blogging. If you are running out of money but still want to create a blog, then start with free blogging tools (Blogger or WordPress) but if you are really passionate and serious blogger then spend some bucks and create self hosted blog.
Bloggers may need some more software like photo editing tools (Adobe Light room, Photoshop, Canva, GIMP etc), marketing software (email marketing, social media management tools) MS office, Google Apps etc.
So freeze whole blogging strategy. Now you have decided on multi niche blog or single niche blog, tone of voice in your writing, blogging software etc. Now your only task is, writing good content, post those and then share on different channels and interact with readers regularly.
What will you write? how often will you write?
You have to obey your predefined blogging strategy. It will help you to maintain a flow throughout your every blog post. Your writing style play an important role to increase website traffic.
Effective writing to engage readers and increase website traffic
Readers always prefer well researched and informative articles. If you are not adding any value in your post for readers then why they will visit your blog again and read your posts.
If you have a tech blog then there is an opportunity to solve problems of your readers through your post. So search most searched problems on different forums (like quora etc), do your own research, find best solution and write a post.
If you are running food blog, travel blog or life style blog then you can share your personal onion and experience what add unique value in your post and most readers like this.
Did you ever think the query you have searched last time could be answered within 100 to 200 words?
Most of the time you want to reconfirm that the solution given in a article or blog post is actually solution to the exact problem you are searching for. Am I right?
So you definitely expect some words from author to explain the problem and / or his or her thinking on the that problem. If it is not same problem then you will definitely search again for solution.
Once you find solutions to your problem, next you check whether that is comprehensive or not and can you apply that solution to your case or not? If yes then what result you will get?
So the whole thing can not be explained within 100-200 words. Your readers are also thinking similar way and they are actually looking for comprehensive solution to exact problem they really have.
This was about your readers point of view.
Now what search engines think? Particularly what Mr. Google 🙂 think about you?
In most cases it is observed that well researched and in depth posts come on first page of Google search results. That means Search engines also like large and well researched posts.
So well researched and in depth post is key to sucess and increase website traffic drastically.
What is Keyword?
A keyword can be a single word or a short phrase what describes about the topic of post to best possible extent. You can select one or multiple keywords for your article or post. It is important for SEO point of view.
Maintaining right keyword density is best way to tell search engine about the topic of your blog post.
A phrase as a keyword (Long tail keyword) is more effective than just a single word as keyword.
Most easy way to get huge organic traffic to your blog is selection of right keywords and maintain right density of keywords in your post. Keyword density approx 2% (repeat 2 times per hundred words) is good for any blog post. Anything less than or more this 2% may badly effect your organic traffic.
I have done so many experiments with keywords in this blog as I had know such proper knowledge before having this blog. I did many big mistakes but then I started monitoring performances of each keywords and learnt a lot throughout my blogging journey.
So start monitoring performances of each keyword and apply your knowledge and take necessary action.
Organic traffic is most valuable traffic for any online marketer and helps to increase website traffic to a great extent.
If visitors come to your blog post but do not read then it will not serve ultimate goal to have a blog and work hard to write so many articles. So you need visitors who actually want to read your posts.
Actually visitors are always in hurry (like me) and they will give you 2-3 seconds to impress and within that time period you will let visitor know about whole topic. If they are impressed only then they will go further and read in detailed.
So it is your responsibility to keep paragraphs short, make some keywords bold and add sub headings to make whole text more comprehensive.
Type important phrases in italic shaped letters, use bullet points in some cases, distinguished color to separate important words or phrases etc.
All such practices will help to impress visitors within few seconds and this also control bounce rate of your blog.
How will you react if a shopkeeper sell you sugar and saying that is wheat flour?
What will be your reaction when you will find 30 size jean labeled 32 size?
You will be annoyed and shout on salesman and probably you will never visit such store again. Right?
Same thing will happen here if you add misleading headline. Such technique actually known as black hat method (SEO piont of view). You may receive benefit for initial few days or months but it is not sustainable and in long run you will loose traffic.
So use appropriate headlines to your posts to increase website traffic and grow blog for longer period.
As discussed earlier, maintain a friendly and polite tone throughout the post. Always write in a manner like you are talking to your readers.
Think about every possible query what may come in your reader’s mind. Write that question in that post if possible and answer your own way. This way you will be able to engage your readers and he will be delightful and possibility of revisiting to your blog will be higher and that way you will increase website traffic.
Once you wrote a nice post, article, story or solution but still you will have some pending jobs to do before publishing on your blog.
- Insert inbound or outbound links, these two will help search engine to know better about your post. Not only internal link building will help in SEO but also outbound links to authority site will help to improve your page rank.
- Write proper SEO title, meta description and slug, never forget to include keywords in all three.
- Schedule your post
Now you already have your blogging strategy, started writing nice post and also taken all SEO matter into consideration. You have already published your first post or few more too.
But still have a pending job and that is sharing all such posts on social media, forums and leaving your footprint through commenting on other blogs. Sharing your blog posts on social media and other platforms not only give you some free traffic to your blog but also in long run it will effect in your overall SEO (Search Engine Ranking). But getting significant traffic from social media and referral sites are not so easy, it needs time and constant effort.
It is also true that nobody can equally successful in all social media platforms. So identify all social media platform which are not performing for your blog and start thinking beyond what you used to do and find possible opportunity to grow followers (or likes or whatever it is) on those platform too.
There are some mistakes I have done as I did not have any such ideas or experience on social media marketing (or Social Media Optimization). So I am doing good in Pinterest, reddit, referral traffic from other blogs but not so successful on other platforms. Initially I had my own strategy for Facebook and Twitter and those works initially to some extent but not sustainable and even not possible if you have big goals.
Facebook is most attractive social media platform to all digital marketers. If you want to get huge traffic from social media then you simply can not avoid Facebook because almost all of your potential readers are on Facebook and you can get so much instant traffic only from this social media platform. Most bloggers are highly dependent on traffic from Facebook. Billions of users on Facebook and it is such a powerful social media which can not be ignored.
How to get traffic from Facebook?
Create own FB page : Create your own Facebook page for your blog, put a nice profile picture and wall paper. Write something about your blog in about section and start sharing your blog posts. Share your own blog posts, others posts, share some important updates and ask something interesting to your followers on FB page. Allocate fixed time for doing so and do not for get to interact with your audiences.
Create FB group : Create a GB group for people with similar interest. Interact with your group members actively. Share anything important comes in your mind, reply to query of your other members. This activity may be little time consumable and not so effective to every type of blogs. So take helps your friends or appoint somebody to manage this or start doing so later on when you will start getting certain amount of traffic everyday.
Use similar public FB groups : This is most easy way to get some social traffic to your blog and that to so easily. Your first task is find out some FB group which are related to your blog topic. Those FB groups must be public groups where you can share your posts weekly. So select such 7 groups and allocate each day of a week for one particular group. Now start sharing your blog posts every day on such groups and you will have different FB group for each day. This way you will get some traffic and very much effective for initial days when you have just started blogging.
Use your own FB profile’s wall : Sharing blog posts on your FB wall may attract some traffic as your friends and family will come to know about it and they may show interest about what you wrote. This may work to some extent but not sustainable as once you will start sharing such posts on your wall then many unknown people will show interest to be your friend what will irritating because everyday you will see a lot of friend requests. If you accept their friend requests then your friend list will be full of unknown people what you definitely do not want. I also started doing so and neglected FB page of this blog. I did this mistake because initially I was getting good traffic and so I was happy. But I never understood that it would be a great blunder of my blogging journey.
What do you say? Are you interested to increase website traffic this way?
For newbie it is very difficult to get traffic from Twitter. Basically many people are not comfortable to manage Twitter handle. Actually those people (I think everybody) who are using Facebook since last couple of years and suddenly they have started using Twitter to promote their blog without any prior experience.
Twitter is a micro blogging platform and it is different from other social media sites. Most of users are consumer and influential.
Do your job : Whatever you will post on your blog, you must share it on twitter. Share as much as possible and but don’t share same thing on same day. Share your thoughts everyday on Twitter and keep your followers updated.
Use hashtag # to spread your tweet and make your tweet a part of a subject for discussion. Use # in your each tweet. This way you can get little more traffic without having enough followers of your Twitter handle.
Involve in other’s matter : It is something opposite what we learnt since childhood and that is “do your job and don’t involve yourself in other’s matter unnecessarily“. Here we do tweets and share our blog posts but that is not enough. You need to be forcefully involved in some trendy subjects. FORCEFULLY? IS IT? Yes some time getting involved in any hot topic may gift you huge free traffic. So keep yours eyes on Twitter suggested trendy topic and take part in discussion on such topics. So that may help you to increase blog traffic without having decent followers on social media.
PIN IT!! PIN IT!! PIN IT!!
Pinterest works excellent if your blog is full of beautiful images. Info graphic may work but if you have food blog or travel blog then you can forget any other platforms and still can survive with Pinterest, and IT IS VERY TRUE. Ask any of such bloggers or your SEO guru.
I was never get bored in playing with Pinterest images. Search it if like then do not hesitate to save it to your specific boards, as simple as it is.
Pin each image from your blog for two three times. Save each one in different boards and also write some nice description.
WHAT IS BOARD?
It is just like a digital board where you can attach your favorite images with PIN. Just like your school, college or office notice board or even a board in your study room (if you have one 🙂 )
Liked somebody else PINS then just go and start following him or her. Nobody will stop you to doing so. Rather they will happy and may be they start following you too.
So spend 15 minutes in morning and 15 minutes in evening on Pinterest, do everything naturally. You will definitely gain some nice followers and soon will start getting traffic to your blog also.
Pinterest is NEVER STRESSFUL like any other platform because of such nice images, those are really self explanatory stuffs. Lazy persons like me prefer Pinterest.
Google is a giant player in internet industry and its all products are successfully leading the industry. ‘Google +’ is another great offering to its users. It’s a unique social networking site and each gmail account holders as by default own Google + account.
Getting a click from Google + site is more easy than any other social networking sites because of its huge numbers of active users.
Many bloggers do not have any clue about effectiveness of Google Plus and they faces difficulties to get traffic from this social networking site. At the beginning most blogger did a common mistake, they actually use their personal profile to promote their blog posts. But Google Plus offers brand page feature to its users who want to promote something (blog posts, products etc). I also did this mistake when I started blogging and continue that mistake for few months. 😛 But it happens when you are self taught and learn something while you actually doing it.
So after creating your own brand page, first task you need to do is complete your profile. Write some details of your blog or website, add profile pic, wall paper, privacy setting etc.
Once you have done with your profile setting, now time to get involved to grab some traffic for your blog. It is not easy to get followers but still you can get some traffic if your content is excellent.
How will you do this?
Type some of your blog keywords in SEARCH section and enter. Scroll down , go to communities section and click some of those communities related to those keywords and join those communities.
|Man hunt : Check each community of which you have become member. Search for those people who are active on such communities or commenting regularly. Pick some of those (they are people with similar interest) and start following them and you can expect you can get some followers of your page in return.|
Start sharing your blog posts with such communities and also with public. This way you will get free traffic without having decent number of followers. So are you ready to increase website traffic with Google Plus?
Above four social media platforms are most popular and many people know about all those platforms. But have you ever used StumbleUpon? Many of you are not familiar to StumbleUpon but do you know that a big percentage of your potential readers are active on StumbleUpon?
Users of StumbleUpon basically prefer to read detailed texts, they keep updated themselves by reading articles (or blog posts) of their interests in more organized manner and also in less time. StumbleUpon helps them to find useful information, articles, posts of their interest where they can express their liking or disliking and even follow certain users who share or stumble similar articles.
Once you set your interest to stumble then it will help you with many similar articles. So you can understand you will loose such valued readers if you are not on StumbleUpon.
Create Account ⇒ Complete your profile ⇒ Select interest ⇒ Add your blog posts ⇒ Stumble pages and like pages daily ⇒ Follow other users ⇒ Get followers and traffic in return ⇒ Keep doing so
Another excellent site from where you can get huge free traffic. I got decent traffic from reddit probably more than any other social media sites excluding Pinterest.
But you can not crack the formula if you are there only to promote your website. So if you really want to increase website traffic from Redditors then just forget that you are a marketer for sometime and interact with other Redditors, share links of some useful and relevant content specific to a subreddit. Reply to comments, submit text based post to share any info or thought, interact with other’s.
There is no tricks or formula to get free traffic from Reddit except
Be Honest ♦ Be Relevant ♦ Be Friendly ♦ Enjoy Interaction
⇒ Remember over smart and greedy marketer never can get significant traffic from Reddit
Getting a DO FOLLOW back-links is not an easy task and that too from a authority site is very hard to get. It needs continuous effort to prove yourself in that niche so that your competitors naturally gift you a DO FOLLOW back-link or contact another blogger or website owner and crack a deal so that you can exchange links to each other and get benefited mutually.
Another way to write for other website or blog and get a back link in return. But getting a opportunity to write for somebody else is not a CANDY what a child can have in his hand. You have to do hard work and write something valuable for others (but you can give that effort to write for yourself too) and the back-link what you earn will be NO FOLLOW in most cases. But it is true that you definitely earn some reputation in your niche.
That is why most of the bloggers like forums and blog commenting. Though all those are NO FOLLOW back-links but still by doing this you make visible yourself on other blogs too and will be able to get some referral traffic from those sites.
Interesting thing is that most people actually say that commenting on blogs & forums does not have any positive effect on your site’s SEO or other way you can say it does not improve your page rank. But does Google ever clarify this or any other search engine said anything on this clearly? Google always collects all data as you can see all such sites link to your site on Google Search Console’s Search Traffic data. So Google actually collects those for certain purpose and it may effect your page rank positively.
Then you must admit that there is no harm in commenting on various blogs and forums, rather you will be benefited for such good practices. So keep commenting and increase website traffic.
Effective commenting tips
Make your comment …………
Relevant ♦ Personal ♦ Informative ♦ Detailed ♦ Controversial ♦ Polite
- Your website will not be equally good for all social media sites, so try to get maximum benefit for those effective platforms and think alternative method to promote your you site on such non performing platform (or social media). So never be disappointed or feel helpless for those non performing social media, as it is part of the game.
- Be honest, friendly and interactive on each social media platform. Never speak only about yourself because it is very fishy and users can smell you and will start ignoring you very soon. So also share other blog owners work, share some trendy or interesting & related articles. Ask questions and share thoughts.
- Think out of the box and get decent traffic without having good number of followers. If you can crack that formula for your blog then you are the WINNER.
- If a hen lays more eggs than others then it needs more feeding than others too. So spend more time where you are getting more traffic.
- Set small target, share your posts, interact with your followers, users and achieve that goal, now set another goal, if you do not follow this rule then social media will no more a fun place, it will be more stressful. Stress will make you rude …….. you will no more remain social …….. RIGHT?
So To Increase Website Traffic :
KEEP THINKING!! KEEP WRITING!! KEEP POSTING!! KEEP PROMOTING!!
