Bengali style tadka dal recipe
Ingredients
  • Whole moong dal – 1 cup
  • Chana dal / Bengal gram – ½ cup
  • Red kidney beans / rajma – 1 tbsp
  • Tomatoes – 2 large size (chopped)
  • Onion – 2 medium size (finely chopped)
  • Ginger paste – 2 tsp
  • Garlic paste – 1 tsp (4-5 cloves)
  • Cumin seeds powder – 1 tsp
  • Coriander powder – 1 tsp
  • Turmeric poder – 1 tsp
  • Garam masala – 1 tsp
  • Red chili powder – 1 tsp
  • Green chilies – 2 (chopped)
  • Salt – according to taste
  • Oil – 2 tbsp
  • Coriander leaves – chopped (for garnishing)
  • Fresh cream – 2 tsp (for garnishing) – optional
  • Ghee – 2 tsp
Instructions
  1. Soak red kidney beans in water for 6 hours
  2. Soak whole moong dal & chana dal in water for 2 hours
  3. Heat a pan and add oil
  4. Now add chopped onion and fry for 3 minutes and add ginger garlic paste too
  5. Add all spices (cumin, coriander, turmeric, red chili powder) & green chilies
  6. Add finely chopped tomatoes in other spices
  7. Add all lentils and mix well and add salt according to taste
  8. Add 3 cup water (add more water iff needed) and mix well
  9. Cover the cooking pot and cook in low flame for 10-12 minutes
  10. Add garam masala & ghee and cook well till gravy becomes thicker
  11. Switch off flame and garnish with coriander leaves & fresh cream
  12. Serve hot
