Such questions come in many bloggers mind when they face difficulties to grow their blog. Content is an asset for any blogger. It is the most important thing of a blog. You certainly admit that all your works, beautiful pictures, videos and info-graphics are meaningless without content in your blog. For this reason, every blogger is so concerned about their content. There are so many aspects of writing blog-content and these include mainly tone of your voice, personal touch in your content, engaging content, informative content etc. So you definitely can understand that writing blog content is not so easy. Most importantly, the internet is not a static, day by day it is crowded by more and more content. People are sharing more information every day. New websites are coming every hour. So competition among the bloggers is now at the top. That is why every blogger wants a differentiating factor for his blog.
That is why people often take special care for optimal content size for each blog post. Many online marketers also are advocating for large content size to grow blog faster.
But what do you think? Does it really help to grow your blog?
How to decide on your optimal content size?
There is no specific rule for deciding on optimal content size. According to many SEO gurus, larger content size is always preferred by search engines. I personally experienced it. But point is that it may bring some organic traffic to your blog but nobody will share this on social media if it is a large & boring content. So large content size is okay till it is enjoyable. Similarly small content may not bring so much organic traffic but readers love to read such contents which are short, interesting and informative. Such contents receive more social sharing.
Three factors to decide on the optimal content size
1. Blogging Niche
Optimal content size depends upon your blogging niche to some extent. If you blog is related to technology and science then you can enjoy less control over content size as each post size will be dependent on post topic. If a topic needs 1000 words to explain then you never can finish it within 400 words because in such case it will not be properly explained. Same way you can not take 2500 words because then it will be too much technical what majority of your readers will not prefer. As a blogger, you want every people who are interested in that topic & they will read that post and enjoy. Your content should not be written for satisfying only a few people who prefer detailed, well researched too much technical content.
But if you have a blog on some other niches like life style, travel and food where you can share your personal experiences, stories and your own thoughts along with few words on that topic. So optimal content size is highly dependent on bloggers personal choice.
But if you are a fashion blogger then you definitely want to add more beautiful pictures than all nice words, as your audience is interested in visual understanding than boring words.
2. Blogging strategy
Large blog content takes more time to write. Suppose you want to write a blog post of 2500 words but it may need two or three days to write whereas a below 1000 words post may need maximum one day to be completed. So sometimes it’s absolutely blogger’s strategy and blogger will decide how he will grow his blog. Many bloggers publish three or four posts each day whereas other bloggers prefer to publish one-two post each day. But you may find so many bloggers on the web who write only well researched organized larger content that is why they only write when they find something worth to share. Such bloggers only share two to three blog-posts each week.
3. Target audience
The target audience may affect your optimal content size. If your blog is for kids or teenagers then you should use limited words, more pictures and info-graphics. But if your target audience is middle-aged educated people then you can share more detailed content. As they are looking for well-researched content, so you can post larger size content.
So how do you decide on the optimal content size for your blog?
